This weekend Rick and I had the great privilege of attending Pedro Sauer's training camp in Kentucky. Pedro is a seventh degree red and black belt under Helio and Rickson Gracie. Also instructing at the camp were fourth degree Rickson Gracie black belt Luis Heredia and Eighth degree black belt Relson Gracie. All three instructors were incredible!
Pedro taught some nice counters to the Darce choke and a bunch of neat ways to escape side control. He also went over some good self defense technique. What I enjoyed most about Pedro's section was his philosophy. I could sit and listen to him talk about jiu jitsu all day long. He is a true master and I highly recommend training with him if you get a chance!
Luis showed a competition takedown series and talked alot about controlling your opponent. Luis has a great vibe and I really enjoyed learning from him. I would train with him any day.
The highlight of the camp was getting to train with Reslon Gracie. Relson is one of the only Gracie brothers I had not trained with and I really had no idea what to expect. The intensity and passion Relson brings to the mat is unbelievable! He is a true inspiration and someone I will always respect and admire. Relson taught a ton of moves including six moves when someone holds you around your head in side control.
Overall the camp surpassed everything I expected by miles. There were at least ten american black belts at the camp and all of them were not only talented but extremely open and giving with their technique. It was a great experience and one I will never forget!
Perdo will be coming to Maine for a seminar in March. I will post more details when it is closer but it looks like it will be March 21&22.
Here are a couple pictures from the camp. I will try to post some more in the next couple days.
